CPO Round Table Meet & IIMM Excellence Awards - 10th March, 2017


Indian Institute of Materials Management (IIMM),Mumbai  held a Gala event - its annual CPO Round Table Edition VII followed by Supply Chain Excellence Awards function at Hotel Rodas, Hiranandani-Powai, Mumbai on 10th March 2017.


The theme of the CPO Meet was “ Digitisation in Supply Chain Management’’ for this year.


The program started with Lighting of the lamp with the hands of all the dignitaries like Honourable Mr. Parthasarathy (Chief Guest), Mr. Amit Sethi (Key Note Speaker), Mr. B. Narayan (Group President-Reliance Industries ltd.) and M/s Mr. B V Iyer, Mr. Ashok Mhatre and past Chairmen Mr. S R Tendulkar , Mr. M. H. Varma .


Mr. Ashok Mhatre, Chairman, Mumbai Branch welcomed all and briefly shared role of IIMM in Supply Chain Skill Building. He also shared on forthcoming events of branch e.g. MATQUIZ on 19th March and DISHA on 21st and 22nd April, 2017.


Mr. B V Iyer, Convenor of CPO Round Table briefed the forum about the concept of CPO meet and set the tone of the Round Table Meet.


Mr V S Parthasarathy, Group CFO,CIO of M & M , Chief Guest of the CPO Meet, in his insightful & inspiring talk initially focused on business challenges in the form of various disruptions such as financial , regulatory, geo political, technological and in business model etc. He explained the bridge for digitization relating to experiential commerce by adopting new technology competitively. Examples of Apple and Google, highlighted the need to fail fast and succeed faster with an eye on new business model.

The term synergy has moved from desirable to an essential commodity. Today, SCM compromises of physical flow along with flow of talents, information, ideas and finance.


His Mantra was ”B2C” is Built to change. He also shared some digitization examples from Mahindra & Mahindra with key message “Leverage digitization to give insights and enhance productivity and efficiency”.


This was followed by a technical presentation by Mr Amit Sethi of GE O&G on the topic of Digitization in SCM. highlighting "Model of one " which helps in intimating and guiding with IOT perspective. He explained the concept of digital thread and digital value discovery framework especially cross functional in three steps - align: Share business context & vision,  Understand : Synthesis challenges and SOLVE: develop concepts to generate ideas.


Mr. Sethi covered a wide spectrum of subjects in industry and gave a very detailed and descriptive presentation on Digitization, various I oT applications in SCM e.g. Planning, Production, Purchasing, Logistics, Transportation & Warehousing etc. His example on simultaneous live equipment redesign through embedded sensors in equipment in operation was a curtain raiser for the future of challenges and opportunities.


A Panel Discussion was held on the theme of the Round Table-‘’Digitization’’. Mr. Bala Iyer , the convenor of CPO anchored the panel discussion wherein Mr. Amit Verma, SVP-P&C Digital Transformation, RIL, Mr. Rahul Vora, Associate Director-FC Operations- Flipkart and Mr. Jitendra Bakliwal, Country Group IT Head-South Asia, Bayer CropScience participated with their views on the topic.


Rahul, Flipkart explained how digitization helped them to handle '15 million' orders from warehouse without any error. Also, explained Nett product services"


Amit Varma, Reliance JIO discussed about end to end digital chain and IOT to digitize and connect. He highlighted how digital procurement changed the whole dimension of traditional procurement. He highlighted the concept "Vendor of One" and 'Block chain'. Digitization helped to extract stream of data which needs to be monetized and utilize for revenue extraction.


Jitendra Bakliwal from Bayer discussed about big data, technologies like IoT and cloud computing. Discussed examples about  Automation about robotics and 3D printing explaining the concept of digital algorithm which is a harbinger of future. He concluded with the mantra of "Grow more or no more”.



Awards Ceremony


At the end, the Awards Ceremony took place and Mr. Surendra Deodhar announced various awards after describing the Award Process.


The awardees were selected after onsite assessment by team of experienced judges M/s A R Sarkar, Ramesh Jhunjhunwala, Girish Pai, Sanjiv Haldankar, H M Bhat. Out of nominations received, jury board comprising M/s Arun Karambelkar –CEO, HCC, Sanjay Gandhi-SVP, Godrej, Pradip Saha and N D Sadri picked up the final awardees.


Organisations that received awards are: Bayer CropScience - Award for Best Warehousing Practices in Manufacturing Sector. This award was accepted by Mr. Somnath Tamhane, Head SCM-Bayer and his team.

Award for Best Warehousing practices in Service Sector was awarded to Reliance Infrastructure Ltd and the Award was accepted by Mr. Anup Mondal Sr. EVP, Mr. Manoj Chouhan-AVP and the team.


Award for Innovation in Supply Management in Manufacturing Sector was conferred on Siemens Ltd and the same was accepted by Mr. Edwin Jasudass, Chief Manager and his team.


Award for Innovation in Supply Management in Service Sector was conferred on L & T Hydrocarbon Engg. Ltd and Mr. Keshav Kotwal, VP & Head SCM, Mr. Rajesh Ancheti & the team accepted the award.


Cheminor Award for Service Sector in Large Scale went to K Raheja and Mr. Shabbir Kanchwal, Sr. VP Mr. Deepak Uttwani AVP and team accepted the award.


Cheminor Award for Mfg. Category in Large Scale was conferred on Maharashtra Seamless Industries. The award was received by Mr. Shiv Kumar Singhal, Wholetime Director, Mr. Chandrasekaran, SVP, Mr. R S Gupta, GM and the team.


Shah & Bhogilal was conferred Cheminor Award in MSME Category and Mr. Mukesh Shah and team accepted the award.


Madhav Mantri Memorial Award for Indian Supply Chain Professional of year went to Mr B V Iyer, Group Country Head Procurement South Asia, Bayer Crop Science.


As a special gesture Mr. Avinash Mantri, son of Late Mr. Madhav Mantri attended the function and participated in Awards Distribution.


UNITOP award was conferred on Mr. B Narayan, Group President, Reliance Industries


After the awards function, Mr. Satish Palekar, Vice Chairman summed up the gist of the event very vividly.


The memorable event ended with vote of thanks by Mr. Animesh Shah, Hon. Treasurer of Mumbai branch.


The entire program was anchored by Mr. Surendra Deodhar very beautifully and effectively being Master of Ceremony.



A group of 100 participants including nearly 50 CPOs and around 50 others including awardees attended the program which was a grand success.
